Mission Statement of NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE, Inc.
“ROCKET FOOTBALL” and “FLAG FOOTBALL” are recreational programs for the benefit of children, conducted by interested adults. Although any sport is competitive, this competitiveness is not emphasized, at least in the perspective of winning or losing. The primary purpose of “ROCKETS” is that every child is placed on a team and every player participates as equally as possible. RULES ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE PLAYERS. Believing that each game is incentive enough to provide a competitive atmosphere, there are no official standings kept and no championships awarded. Teams are constructed through the league sponsored draft process,* and in scheduling an effort is made to match teams of similar strengths.
*FLAG FOOTBALL teams are constructed by an areas Field Director and are not subject to NRFL Draft Regulations or Requirements. FLAG FOOTBALL games are scheduled by the individual areas and they are solely responsible for such contests.

NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE, INC.
The NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE’s 2010 season was a rousing success with over 8,500 boys and girls participating in tackle and flag football and cheerleading. The new areas added in 2010 (Garfield Park, ML King Park, Mulick Park, Richmond Park, Seidman Center and Westside Falcons) proved to be excellent additions to the NRFL family and were all extended permanent memberships for 2011.
The NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE, INC. is a 501c3 non-profit organization, incorporated under the laws of the state of Michigan. We have currently 34
member areas in the counties of Kent, Ottawa, Montcalm, Mecosta, Osceola, Isabella and Ionia. Last year the NRFL scheduled almost 800 tackle football games at 35 different playing fields. All scheduling is done by the league using the computer program that was designed specifically for the weekly “strength” scheduling and it factors in the previous week’s performance of every team in the league. The NRFL is overseen by an Executive Board that is composed of the Field Director of each member area and the 12 members of the Executive Council. The Executive Council handles the operation of the league during the off-season and all E-council members are unpaid volunteers.
This year the NRFL has decided to require ALL Head Coaches to take and successfully complete the USA Football Standard Coach’s Certification program. This program is age specific, just like the NRFL and is recognized as the premier course for youth football coaches. ALL NRFL coaches are also required to attend a league conducted meeting where playing rules are reviewed and real case scenarios are discussed. We also conduct background checks on all volunteers and issue an identification card that is tied to attendance at the NRFL Coach/Official meetings. The NRFL is totally serious about the safety of our players and will continue to press for rules and uipment changes that will make our players as safe as possible. Naturally in any contact sport the risk of injury is possible but we feel that utilizing the best in coaching techniques as taught by the USA Football Coach Certification program helps to reduce that possibility.
Since 2001 the NRFL has funded college scholarships for former participants in our programs and to date 145 awards have been made. This year there were 25 recipients from 11 different areas. Funding for these scholarships comes from a variety of sources including league membership dues that all NRFL areas pay and outside fundraising. Details about the scholarship fund, and/or how to donate are available on our website at www.nrflmi.com
The NORTHERN ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE, INC. is an instructional league that exists for the sole purpose of promoting and teaching the game of football. Our mission is to offer safe, fun football and promote sportsmanship at all of our activities. Parents can help us achieve our goal by being on their best behavior and acting like a GOOD SPORT at all NRFL activities, so please watch both your language and actions as our players—YOUR sons and daughters will be! Support your coaches and administrators even, perhaps especially when you personally do not agree with them; remember they are all volunteers and deserving of your respect.
Thank you for your support and if you have questions please ask your area Field Director and they will either have the answer will get it for you. LET’ HAVE A GREAT 2011 SEASON !!!!!
